April 2019, marks 70 years of our National Parks, which were created by the passing of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. Since 1949, there have 15 National Parks created in the UK. The National Parks of Britain cover a combine area that equates to 10% of the land in Britain which is just over 23000 km2. Ten of the National Parks are located in England and offer thousands of kilometres of paths enabling us to explore their stunning landscapes and features. The third largest of the parks is the Yorkshire Dales at approximately 2179 km2 which can be found in North Yorkshire as can The North York Moors which is also a National Park.
There are a number of events planned to celebrate the 70 years and this includes National Parks fortnight which is running from the 6th to the 21st April. With North Yorkshire home to two of these amazing parks, April is a great time to visit this fabulous part of the UK.
