Beningbrough Hall Birthday Bulbs

Beningbrough Hall marks the 300th birthday of the current hall in 2016 and one of the ways this National Trust property is celebrating its birthday is the planting of 300,000 bulbs in the grounds of the hall. The challenge started in February with staff,visitors and volunteers planting 200,000 snowdrops planted ‘in the green’.

September is however, a great time to visit Beningbrough hall as the hall with the assistance of visitors are looking to plant the remaining 100,000 bulbs so a great time to experience the hall and all it has to offer as well as being part of the halls historic birthday celebrations. The Hall have asked for help to plant the remaining 100,000 bulbs,every weekend in September, 10.30am – 5pm. ( *Normal admission charges apply – free entry to National Trust members and under fives.) The event is free, donations towards bulbs are understand welcomed and appreciated.

Celebrate The 300th Birthday of Beningbrough Hall & Help Plant 300,000 Bulbs

This event is for young and all with gloves provided for both big and little hands and kneelers. All tools will be provided on site including long and short handled planters. Visitors can stay for as long or as little as they wish and can plant either a few bulbs pr perhaps a tray or two. In future years the new ‘ha-ha walk’ will be full of colour thanks to the contributions of staff, visitors and volunteers.

The nulb planting and walk is the first part of the ten year garden plan by the garden designer Andy Sturgeon has influenced. he is also reportedly working on future designs for the Beningbrough garden. This large area that has been planted with bulbs is part of that plan. In addition to the Galanthus nivalis already planted, In September the bulbs that will be planted in September are:

Narcissus ‘Tête á Tête’
Narcissus ‘Toto’
Narcissus poeticus var. recurvus or pheasant’s eye daffodil
Crocus tommasinianus ‘Whitewell purple’
Chionodoxa forbesii (syn. luciliae) or glory of the snow
